This 28,000 square foot greenhouse requires reverse osmosis water for exotic plant growth. Located off the beaten path in Cookstown Ontario, the plant only has access to well water which is laden with hardness, iron and bacteria. The plant also requires water over a 24 hour period. The owners of the plant had virtually exhausted their budget when they realized they had to consider the water question. Therefore, a single tank iron filter and single tank water softener were used with lockout relays which stopped the RO from producing when the systems had to backwash/regenerate (this saved some money versus the usual “twin tank” approach). Water is then stored in two 500 gallon polyethylene tanks and pumped with a 3/4 horsepower Grundfos stainless pumps through an ultraviolet system to 7 outlets in the building.
